At least 25 Al-Shabaab militants were killed in the last two days and equipment destroyed in an operation conducted by Somali forces in Faafadhun in Gedo region.
The commander of the 49th division of Somali National Army in Bardhere Farah Mohamed Turba told the media the forces conducted an offensive in Faafadhun in the last two days killing the militants and destroying their wares.
“The operation was very successful. We conducted an operation in the last two days in areas near Faafadhun and inflicted heavy losses on the enemy,” Turba told the Somali News Agency (SONNA). “We killed 25 militants and destroyed three vehicles.”
The commander added the military also seized weapons from the militants during the operation.
The operation comes amid intensified military operations in the southern regions. The US said Tuesday it killed two Al-Shabaab militants in Jilib in southern Somalia
“In coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. forces conducted an airstrike against al-Shabaab militants on Feb. 26, in the vicinity of Jilib, Somalia, killing two (2) terrorists and wounding one (1) terrorist,” Africom said in a statement.
